Lou-Adriane Cassidy

Biography

From the time she successfully released her first single “Ça va ça va” in 2017, Quebec-based singer-songwriter Lou-Adriane Cassidy showed tremendous promise despite her young age. Her debut album, C’est la fin du monde à tous les jours, was released in February 2019 to great acclaim in Quebec and France. She rapidly gained attention by winning the Lucien award for Pop Album of the Year at the 2019 GAMIQ ceremony and by receiving two ADISQ nominations that same year, for Adult Contemporary Album of the Year and Revelation of the Year. In 2020, the Académie Charles-Cros granted her its prestigious Coup de cœur award for her debut album. Equally valuing her talents as a singer-songwriter and performer, she combines compositions and collaborations with ease, putting herself in service of the works she chooses. The single “J’espère encore que quelque part l’attente s’arrête” lays the groundwork for a sophomore, “Lou-Adriane Cassidy vous dit: Bonsoir” album that’s even more assured and uncompromising than its predecessor.

Winner of the Lucien for artist of the year at GAMIQ, nominated in the categories of songwriter, critics' choice and rock album of the year at the last ADISQ gala, winner of the Slaight Music award for emerging songwriter in 2022 and the Coup de Coeur de l'Académie Charles-Cros award in 2020, Lou-Adriane Cassidy has become one of the most relevant voices of her generation in recent years. Her latest show, which Le Devoir called "the best Quebec concert [of] 2022", left a lasting impression and continues to generate buzz on both sides of the Atlantic.

Her debut album, C’est la fin du monde à tous les jours, was released in February 2019 to great acclaim in Quebec and France. With overseas travel plans on hold due to the pandemic, her visit to the other side of the Atlantic promises to be even more warmly welcomed when the time comes. She rapidly gained attention by winning the Lucien award for Pop Album of the Year at the 2019 GAMIQ ceremony and by receiving two ADISQ nominations that same year, for Adult Contemporary Album of the Year and Revelation of the Year. In 2020, the Académie Charles-Cros granted her its prestigious Coup de cœur award for her debut album—eighteen years after her mother, Paule-Andrée Cassidy, received the same distinction. Fully owning the stage everywhere she goes, Lou-Adriane Cassidy has completed a tour of over 75 concerts, with appearances at the Festival d’été de Québec, Les Francos de Montréal, Festif! and a number of more intimate venues and festivals. As she began to discover the musical possibilities of live shows, notably by accompanying Hubert Lenoir on stage, she slowly embraced a more grunge and rock attitude, which suits her perfectly.

Equally valuing her talents as a singer-songwriter and performer, she combines compositions and collaborations with ease, putting herself in service of the works she chooses. The songs she takes on truly become her own, regardless of who created them. On stage, she embodies the rich lyrics of Barbara, Jacques Brel and others, as if they were a second skin. Her fans, who eagerly await a sophomore album, have been treated to a few off-record collaboration singles: “La pluie ne tombe jamais sur toi” (November 2019) and “Mais ce soir,” sung in duo with Anatole (November 2020).

With her second album, Lou-Adriane Cassidy vous dit : bonsoir, released in autumn 2021, Lou-Adriane puts her exceptional talent at the service of sensuality and youth. Grunge, seventies Anglo-Saxon chanson, live and intimate capture, turn-of-the-millennium power ballad, the musical territory covered by the songs only equals the range of the artist's voice, still immense even if the instrumentation is denser than on C'est la fin du monde à tous les jours. Bold without being demonstrative, Lou-Adriane Cassisy vous dit : Bonsoir opens a new chapter in the young musician's career. Now aware that "basically, you can do anything", she does as she pleases, whether you like it or not.
