Biography

Since the release of her solo debut Apprentie guerrière (2012), which earned her a Félix award for Alternative Album of the Year, Quebec’s Fanny Bloom has revealed a distinctive brand of current and compelling pop. At ease in either melancholy or upbeat tunes, she followed up with Pan in 2014 and a self-titled piano album in 2016. A feisty and fearless creator, Fanny Bloom elegantly sings about her irresistible desires and the memories that haunt her.

And now, she proudly introduces Liqueur, a refreshing concoction of sweet ingredients created with TŌKI (i.e. Thomas Hébert and Julien Harbec, her formed bandmates from La patère rose). Youthful, refreshing and bursting with colour, this new opus is as uplifting as the early arrival of spring. The songs are marked by memorable melodies, light lyrics, and Fanny’s airy voice. More radiant than ever, our fragile-hearted fighter once again shows her knack for both hip-swinging and heart-wrenching tunes. After releasing other catchy singles such as “Boum Boum Pow Pow” and Cinema, Fanny Bloom has also participated in the project La Renarde, sur les traces de Pauline Julien, on album and on stage.

Born in Montréal and raised in the Montérégie region, Fanny Bloom began tinkering at the piano from a very young age. Rapidly, her passion for soothing, delicate music was ignited. After a decade of classical studies, she crossed paths with Thomas Hébert and Julien Harbec (Valaire), and together, they founded La patère rose. After winning the Francouvertes competition in 2008, the band was signed to Grosse Boîte in Quebec and Naïve in France. Later, they performed as the opening act for MIKA in Europe.

As time passed, our fragile-hearted fighter decided to chart her own course. Driven by a desire to do things her own way, Fanny released her solo debut, Apprentie guerrière, in 2012, which earned her the Félix award for Best Alternative Album. Just two years later, she teamed up with Étienne Dupuis-Cloutier to create the nostalgic love songs that make up Pan. The sophomore release led to a nomination for Singer-Songwriter of the Year at the 2015 ADISQ ceremony, and her songs “Piscine” and “Évidemment (Claude Bégin remix)” were huge radio hits.

In 2015, she was commissioned to write the soundtrack for the play Constellations (presented at La Licorne theatre), which yielded a beautiful four-song EP. At ease in either melancholy or upbeat tunes, the fearless and feisty artist produced a self-titled album the following year, which featured piano versions of her previous material. She then embarked on a tour in support of the album, backed only by an illuminated piano; the show was staged by Jean-Simon Traversy.

An artist who elegantly sings about her irresistible desires and the memories that haunt her, Fanny Bloom reunited with her long-time collaborators to create Liqueur. Candid, colourful and refreshing, the album is as uplifting as the early arrival of spring. The recording took form in a spirit of spontaneousness with TŌKI (Thomas Hébert and Julien Harbec) and finds Fanny singing about love, joy, and suaveness. Marked by memorable melodies, light lyrics and Fanny’s airy voice, Liqueur is a refreshing blend of sweet ingredients. Current and compelling, the album offers both hip-swinging and heart-wrenching moments.

After releasing other catchy singles such as “Boum Boum Pow Pow” and Cinema, Fanny Bloom has also participated in the project La Renarde, sur les traces de Pauline Julien, on album and on stage.
