A carnival of inspiring stories, a strong fraternity formed through friendship in the carefree bliss of summer. Wild weavers of North American roots who are no strangers to late-night carousing and everything that comes with it—the eternal dichotomy of Saturday night overindulgence and Sunday morning repentance.

Strung together with whatever instruments lay to hand, Canailles are a self-taught bunch who have created an instinctive sound enriched by the members’ diverse backgrounds—because the world is a big and beautiful place. Gospel, blues and other old-time traditions are embraced and proudly elevated into a wall of contemporary acoustic sounds.

Formed in 2010, the band has given over 400 concerts in a spirit of sport for life, travelling all over Quebec and elsewhere in Canada, from Dawson City to the main stage at FrancoFolies. Their impressive tour history also includes trips to Lafayette (LA), France, Belgium, Germany, Réunion Island, and a memorable appearance at Poland’s Woodstock Festival, where they performed before a crowd of over 10,000 punks.

In 2010, the group offered an EP that paved the way for its first full-length album, Manger du bois (2012). Produced by the incomparable Socalled and mixed by Philip Bova (Feist, Bell Orchestre, Stars), Canailles’ debut received two ADISQ nominations the year it was released (Country Album of the Year + Critic’s Choice), as well as two Panache awards at the GAMIQ ceremony (Show of the Year + Country Album of the Year). The group also received a nomination for Francophone Artist/Group of the Year and took home the award for Emerging Artist of the Year—Francophone at Canadian Music Week’s Indie Awards. 2014 marked the year of Canailles’ sophomore release, Ronds-points. Produced by Éric Villeneuve, the album received an ADISQ nomination (Country Album of the Year) and another Panache award at the GAMIQ (Roots Album of the Year).

After a few ritual writing sessions tucked away in a remote cottage, the group pursue their exciting journey with their third studio effort, Backflips, which is set for release in the spring of 2017. Thoroughly tried and tested live on both sides of the Atlantic, these new songs form a choice soundtrack to spice up both laid-back get-togethers and fiery fiestas. An assortment of upbeat rhythms that’s sure to keep your pulse pounding! This beautiful saga ends in 2021, when the band announces the end of its activities, after a decade of contagious fun.
